Complex Trauma Therapy in Denver

If you’ve spent years feeling like you’re experiencing chronic hypervigilance, you aren't alone. Complex trauma isn't just about what happened; it’s about how your body and mind adapted to survive.

Many of my clients come in feeling like they’ve tried every traditional talk therapy with little change in their daily distress. When you’ve survived complex trauma, we focus on moving beyond just managing symptoms. We work to resolve the underlying survival loops that keep you stuck in hypervigilance or shutdown.

A somatic approach to complex trauma therapy

Healing from the weight of C-PTSD

Trauma can begin in many different ways. Sometimes it comes from experiences like childhood abuse, serious injuries, or domestic violence. Other times, it may be sparked by the loss of someone you love, experiences of racism, or witnessing something deeply unsettling. However it begins, trauma can look and feel different for each person.

Trauma symptoms can include nightmares, disturbing flashbacks, anxiety about specific events or situations, increased irritability, and more. Many people who are suffering from the effects of trauma can have difficulties managing relationships and often feel detached from others.

Start complex trauma therapy

I use both Internal Family Systems (IFS) and EMDR to help you process these layers. We don't just talk about the past; we work with how the past shows up in your body right now.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) We look at the different "parts" of you. You might have a harsh inner critic that tries to keep you safe by being perfect, or a part that wants to numbs out when things get heavy. Instead of fighting these parts, we use somatic awareness to understand their roles and help them unburden the trauma they've been carrying.

EMDR and Your Nervous System EMDR helps reprocess memories that feel "stuck." When we use bilateral stimulation, we help your brain move those memories from an active, distressing state into the past where they belong. This allows you to move from a state of constant high alert into a place of felt safety.

FAQs

What is the difference between PTSD and complex PTSD?

1

PTSD often results from a single traumatic event. Complex PTSD (C-PTSD) comes from repeated, prolonged trauma, often occurring in childhood or within relationships where there was an imbalance of power. C-PTSD usually involves deeper struggles with identity, emotional regulation, and a persistent inner critic.

How long does complex trauma therapy take?

2

Getting started is simple. Reach out through our contact form or schedule a call—we’ll walk you through the next steps and answer any questions along the way.

Can we do EMDR for complex trauma virtually?

3

Yes. I provide virtual EMDR and IFS sessions for residents in both Denver. We make sure you have the right tools and a stable environment to process your work safely from your own space.

Do I have to remember every detail of my trauma to heal?

4

No. Somatic therapy and EMDR allow us to work with the "body memories" and the felt sense of trauma without requiring a perfect chronological narrative. We focus on the impact the events had on your system rather than forcing you to relive every detail.
