Therapy for Young Adults in San Diego
Navigate your 20s and 30s and explore what’s next.
Your 20s and 30s are supposed to be the time of your life. For many people, they are. But no one really talks out loud about the pressure that comes with it—the feeling that you need to be building the perfect career, cultivating the perfect relationships, and crafting the perfect life, all while trying to figure out who you actually are.
It can feel like you’re standing at a crossroads with a thousand different paths, and the fear of choosing the "wrong" one is paralyzing. You might look at others' lives on social media and feel like you're falling behind, even when you're working so hard just to keep up.
I’m Allie Evans, and as a therapist for young adults in San Diego, I specialize in helping people navigate this exciting, confusing, and pivotal stage of life. This isn't just about managing a "quarter-life crisis"; it's about building a strong foundation for a life that feels authentic and fulfilling to you.
Understand your identity in these important decades
The challenges you're facing are real. This stage of life is unique in how it creates pressure, a need for discovery, and sets expectations. In my work with young adults, we often explore common themes like:
Career & Identity: Wrestling with imposter syndrome, feeling unfulfilled in your job, or feeling immense pressure to have your entire career path mapped out.
Relationships & Dating: Navigating the complexities of modern dating, healing from past heartbreaks, or learning how to build secure, healthy partnerships.
Friendship Shifts: Experiencing the loneliness that comes when friendships change, friends move away, or it becomes harder to find your people.
Family Dynamics: Learning to set healthy boundaries with family and shifting from a child to an adult role within your family system.
Overwhelming "Adulting": Feeling anxious about finances, responsibilities, and the general weight of trying to get it all right.
Get to know yourself as a young adult
My goal as your therapist isn't to give you answers or tell you which path to take. My role is to help you clear away the noise, the "shoulds," and the external pressures so you can hear your own voice more clearly. We'll use powerful, evidence-based approaches to do this:
Internal Family Systems (IFS): We’ll get to know the conflicting parts of you—the ambitious part that fears failure, the people-pleasing part that’s exhausted, the inner critic that says you’re not good enough. IFS helps you understand and harmonize these parts so you can lead your life from a place of calm and confidence.
Attachment Theory: Your early life experiences create a blueprint for how you connect with others. We’ll explore your attachment patterns to help you understand your dynamics in friendships and romantic relationships, empowering you to build the secure connections you long for.
EMDR & Trauma Work: Sometimes, past experiences—even ones that don't seem like "big T" traumas—can create negative beliefs that hold you back today. EMDR can help process these experiences and beliefs, freeing you up to pursue your future with more confidence.
Make the most of your 20s and 30s with therapy
You don't have to be at rock bottom to benefit from therapy. Think of it as a dedicated space to invest in yourself—a space to build self-awareness, learn new skills, and proactively create a life that is truly your own with someone who wants you to be you.
If you're a young adult in San Diego looking for a supportive space to navigate your 20s or 30s, let's start the conversation.
